Our photographic commission this past weekend was to cover the first day of Weymouth Regatta.
It was great for this popular and well-organised event to have a title sponsor this year in the form of WhyBoats, the brokers and Elan dealers who now have an office in Portland.
Conditions in Weymouth Bay could hardly have been better, with a brisk generally steady south-westerly. Classes included sportsboats (with four Grand Surprises in the fleet), IRC 3 (multiple Js including two 35s, a 109, and a 97), IRC 4 for the smaller club racers, and a good fleet of Squibs.
Visiting boats travelled from as far afield as Hamble and Torbay and an excellent weekend’s racing was had by all.
We were going to head back after our photographic coverage on Saturday, but ended up swapping our photography hat for our racing hat on Sunday and joining the crew of a boat in IRC 3.
As ever after an event, it will take a while to edit and index all the photos. In the meantime, a selection can be seen in the initial gallery.
