David
Harding of Sailing Scenes is a yachting photographer whose work
regularly appears in and on books, magazines, newspapers, brochures, web
sites and exhibition displays.
In addition to his photographic work, David writes boat tests and technical
articles, and is principal boat tester of Britain's biggest-selling yachting
magazine, Practical Boat Owner. He has sailed, raced, rowed or motored over
250 types of boat, from inflatable tenders to RIBs, power boats, sailing
dinghies, keelboats, multihulls and offshore yachts.
He came into his current line of work after a career that included time with
boat yards, riggers and charter companies, crewing on ocean voyages
(including four Atlantic crossings in the early 1980s), running his own
sailing school, and a spell as sales manager with Sadler Yachts.
Although most of his time afloat is now spent working, David is a former
dinghy national champion and continues to race periodically - occasionally
still managing to point boats in the right direction. In 2005, he was joint
winner of the RYA UK Media Sailing Challenge, sailed in Laser Picos at the
London Boat Show, and later in the year skippered and helmed the winning
entry in the Marine Industry Regatta, sailed in Sun Fast 37s.
A to Z of marine photography
Although this web site principally portrays
regatta photography, David's work covers all aspects of life afloat,
cruising as well as racing. He maintains an extensive A - Z archive
of production yachts, from Alacrities to Zyklons, which has been widely
used by book and magazine publishers on both sides of the Atlantic..
