…would, we’ve always thought, make a suitable opening for a speech by a Merlin Rocket sailor. It has no doubt been used on many occasions, but whether it was on Saturday night during the bash at Parkstone Yacht Club to mark the Merlins’ 70th anniversary, we don’t know (though photos from the Sailing Scenes archive were on show, going back to the early years of this century). What we do know is that the fleet had managed just one Silver Tiller race on Saturday afternoon before such wind as there was died away. We passed by with the camera, stopping briefly to grab a handful of shots that can be seen in the Silver Tiller gallery.
